Durch eine alterungsbedingte, fortschreitende Eintr\u00fcbung der Linse kann der Graue Starr zum vollkommenen Verlust der Sehf\u00e4higkeit f\u00fchren. Die Behandlung erfolgt durch operatives Entfernen der nat\u00fcrlichen Linse und Einsatz einer k\u00fcnstlichen Linse. Sie z\u00e4hlt in Deutschland zu den Routineeingriffen der Augenchirugie. In Entwicklungsl\u00e4ndern ist der Graue Star nicht nur bei der \u00e4lteren Bev\u00f6lkerung anzutreffen, auch viele Kinder leider hieran. Eine Ursache f\u00fcr Grauen Star bei Kindern kann zum Beispiel in einer R\u00f6telninfektion der Mutter w\u00e4hrend der Schwangerschaft liegen. Auch Vererbung oder Mangelern\u00e4hrung spielen eine Rolle. Ob alt oder jung, der operative Eingriff ist f\u00fcr die \u00c4rmsten der Armen selten aus eigener Hand zu bezahlen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mit Unterst\u00fctzung durch den Bundesstaat West-Bengalen werden im Krankenhaus Kondolia schon seit etlichen Jahren sogenannte <strong>Eye-Camps<\/strong> durchgef\u00fchrt. Hierzu reisen in der Regel einmal im Monat Augenchirurgen aus Kolkata mit der notwendiger medizinischen Ausr\u00fcstung und Material an, um 30-40 Patienten am Grauen Star zu operieren. Die Termine der Eye-Camps werden vorab in den umliegenden D\u00f6rfern bekannt gemacht. Potentielle Patienten werden durch einen Optometristen im Krankenhaus Kondolia voruntersucht und f\u00fcr die Behandlung ausgew\u00e4hlt. Die Behandlung erfolgt kostenfrei und wird durch staatliche Mittel gef\u00f6rdert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1
